I feel my best when I’ve had a chance to spend time near the ocean, so COVID-19 has challenged me to enjoy the outdoors without going near the water since I don’t live within walking distance of the waves. I refuse to park my car in someone else’s neighborhood when they are asked to shelter in place. (I can, however, ride my bike to the beach.) Do you have a place that rejuvenates you like that?
I still haven’t paddle-boarded, but kayaking and boating are a great way to spend time with friends. And have you ever tooled around in a Duffy Boat? What a kick!
Trips to play on Catalina Island, to watch whales and to sightsee are a lot of fun too. I’ve taken my grandkids a couple times and everybody loves it! We’re gonna do it again really soon; but in the meantime we content ourselves listening to and reading Raffi’s Baby Beluga.
It is those lyrics, which I’ve enjoyed for decades after first listening to them with my children, that inspired this abstract piece.
